I love the painterly style of this short from Lightning Boy Studio ( Carl Beauchemin, Thomas Chrétien, and David Forest. )
Funded by a successful kickstarter. They used an unusual set of tools for their unique look. All the 3D was done Softimage with a bit of ZBrush to add extra details. Photoshop for textures and After Effects for compositing. Particles were done with a Plugin called Slipstream VX and finally Sony Vegas for the editing.
